April 1st 2006 was the designated date for the Ponnu Paakal (first look at the girl) which as mentioned earlier was to be held in Jayalakshmi Mahalingam Iyer's (J's) Maama's (maternal uncle's) house. Now the significance of the date was completely lost out on Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer (S). Little did he realize that it was not only 'Fools' Day' in the rest of the world, but would prove to be "the" Fools' Day where he would be fooled into believing a lot of things.

Appa (Venkataraman Sivaramakrishnan Iyer) got in touch with Hari Periappa (Hariharan Sivaramakrishnan Iyer) who came down all the way from Hyderabad with Saavi Periamma (Savithri Krishnaswamy Iyer).

As far as Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer (S) was concerned this particular jaadagam (horoscope) was no different from any other. She was well-educated (an IIM-A graduate, mind it!!!), typical Pattar ponnu from Bangalore, father was a Chartered Accountant (one of the earliest ones with a Membership Number running only into 4 digits, ie, among the first 10,000 CAs in the country), one younger sister, well employed with Accenture Bangalore, etc etc.

The immediate days after the horoscope was handed over to Vaidy Athimber were the days when Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer (S) well and truly began contemplating and dreaming about who his future would be spent with.

The precis of Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer's (S's) achievements went thus -

I am a graduate in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Govt College of Technology, Coimbatore (Batch of 2001), and have been employed with Infosys Technologies, Bangalore since September 2001. Am an avid follower of cricket, voracious reader, keen listener and connoiseur of Carnatic music, and enjoy Tamil movies a lot.

Let us all take a step back and learn a little more about Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer's (S's) travails (or better put 'adventures') in finding the "fair, religious, well mannered, graduate, bride wanted" that he (or rather his parents) wanted for him.

It had been 6 odd years since Santhanakrishnan Venkataraman Iyer (let's just call him S, for short) had been qualified as "well employed with MNC at Bangalore" (to use the exact words that Appa used in the Sunday Hindu Matrimonial Ad). In other words, S had completed his engineering graduation (any other degree would be a sacrilege, MBBS was acceptable though) and was employed with every Tam Brahm dad's dream company Infosys.
